Done and Dusted

I am very fond of cozy British mysteries. In the book I am reading now, the main character cheerily exclaims "done and dusted!" every time she finishes a task. Well, I am 'done and dusted' with Tuning Fork #14 and Tuning Fork #15.

I showed Tuning Fork 14 in progress last week, fully intending to finish it and send it to SAQA. And then I started to think. Always dangerous. I decided that I needed to see how small I could go with the tuning fork units. The darker portions of TF 15 are smaller, but I know I can do better than that.....

Anyway, before I start obsessing about 1/2" finished tuning fork units, I wanted to show you my first finished pieces of 2014! Done and Dusted!

I have a question for everyone: which piece should I send to SAQA for the "This is a Quilt" traveling trunk show? Which do you feel is the stronger piece? I'd love to have everyone's feedback!

both are beautiful. but I pick #15 too. I love the different color way you used in these 2 quilts. (Different from your usual colors.)

I respond to the second one, 15.
It was an interesting exercise though to decide. I tried to figure out why, then noticed the others felt the same draw to it. I think the orientation of the dark fabric, the orientation of the fork is more balanced somehow. Well, someone could do a term paper on the why...

Things I like better about #15: more variation in size of "handles"; "tuning forks" going in both directions; yellow more spread over the total; motion heading up (but I don't think it would work to simply flip #14); the one yellow orange tuning fork.

I like the purple in the first one, and the contrast of the dark corner and the bright yellow. But... I like the shapes of the 2nd, the upside down forks connecting to make another shape, add lots of interest and balance.

Hi, Heather. Both are beautiful, but I agree with everyone else that 15 is the stronger piece. Probably because of the strong darks that make the yellows dance, and also make it balance well.

I really like both- and truly I am not sure which I'd choose. I've enjoyed reading comments and noticing which people are drawn towards. Fun project, fun post.

Both pieces have a special draw for me, and yet #15 is particularly focused, as the colors "bend" to draw the viewers eye downward.
The planned dark side is mysterious and I want to go there to search out the patterns and greyed forks. GREAT job both and I hope #15 makes it to Eileen by the 31st.
