Back from Ruidoso

What a wonderful week! I've been staying in Ruidoso, New Mexico, with some bridge buddies. It's been very hot here in Fort Worth, so it was a great time to escape to the mountains. Ruidoso was blissfully cool, even chilly at night. My friend's house (it belongs to her brother) is really wonderful -- perched on a ridge, with views of the Sierra Blanca mountains on one side (you could see the ski runs of Ski Apache) and a beautiful canyon on the other. Lots of balconies. We didn't spend much time indoors. We shopped a lot, laughed a lot, visited the casino on the nearby Mescalero Apache reservation (I won $45 playing the slots) and spent an afternoon at the horse races (I lost $14). I hate losing money, so I'm not much of a gambler, but at the casino I put $5 in a slot and decided I could afford to play until it was gone. I couldn't believe it when I actually won something. And the races were fun -- I'd never been before.

We even managed to play a few hands of bridge.

We ate at several really good restaurants. The Greenhouse in Capitan was absolutely wonderful! Chef owned, 6 tables total, and cooked using produce grown in the chef's greenhouse. Fantastic meal.

I took a couple of pictures, but can't seem to upload them. Maybe later...
