Brian and I just got home from San Diego, where we attended the opening of Quilt Visions 2014. What a fabulous show!
Neither of us had been to San Diego before, so were excited to see the city and, of course, see my quilt in the exhibit. Our first stop was the beach on Point Loma:
And then we were off to the Visions Art Museum:
Brian took this photo of the artists. Getting us to all look in the same direction proved impossible.
It was great to see some old friends, and to make some new ones. And it was very exciting to receive the Cathy Rasmussen Emerging Artist Memorial Award (the "CREAM" award"). I feel greatly honored to have received this award, which is sponsored by SAQA and honors the organization's first executive director. After the opening reception on Saturday and the artists' breakfast and gallery walk on Sunday, Brian and I decided to see some of the local sights. We started on the USS Midway, an aircraft carrier that is now a museum. It was really cool!
On Monday, we went to Balboa Park. We had a great time touring the Japanese garden, the Botanical building, the San Diego Museum of Art. The SDMA had a really wonderful exhibit, "Gauguin to Warhol," which featured paintings from the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo. Paintings by some of our favorite artists.
We stayed in downtown San Diego in the Gaslamp District, at the Keating Hotel. We were in a suite, 3rd story with the corner turret windows.
We loved our rooms. This is the living room, with the couch tucked under the turret windows. The bedroom was even bigger.
I've linked this post to Nina-Marie's "Off the Wall Friday" and "Can I Get a Whoop Whoop?" Go see all the beautiful work posted there!
