SAQA North Texas Circle Field Trip to the Dallas Museum of Art.

Last weekend the North Texas SAQA group headed to Dallas to see a new exhibit by Laura Owens.  Owens is a mainly a painter, but she uses embroidery and appliqué techniques in some of her work.
Many of her paintings feature very thick impasto:
One gallery was full of furniture (made by another artist) and paintings of bees and beehives.  The bees were described in the catalog as "technically complex."  Hmmmm.
I like the "Bayeux Tapestry" style painting:
We enjoyed viewing the exhibit.  It generated a great deal of debate during lunch.
It is always fun to spend a day with friends:
I loved this view into another gallery:

"Technically complex," huh? We'll just let that slide. I love that sailing ship embroidery, though!
