Ahhhh. Cape Cod. What a beautiful place! Brian and I have a small cottage in Eastham. We decided about 2 years ago that we would renovate it and expand it, with the goal of retiring there some day. It seemed like a faraway and perhaps impossible dream, but hooray! It is actually happening!

So, exhilarated and excited, we arrived in Eastham in April and spent a chilly week emptying the house. Completely. Since we are adding a second floor, the first thing the construction crew will do is rip off the roof. So everything had to come out.
Since we plan on moving there, and already own a lot of furniture and artwork, we donated and/or discarded quite a bit of the contents. And after many days of hard slog, the house looked like this:

It wasn't all hard work! We spent three days with the contractor and architect, picking out finishes. I love that part!
We managed to do a little hiking and spent a bit of time on the beach. It was not exactly beach weather, but it was beautiful nonetheless.

I managed to spend some time communing with the salt marsh near First Encounter Beach. Even now, when it is mostly brown, I find it visually stimulating.
The cherry tree we planted 16 years ago was blooming in the cottage's front yard:
We went on a hike with our next door neighbors through the cedar swamp near Marconi Beach. It was a beautiful day!
We went to the Rock Harbor Grill in Orleans with our neighbors. We've known them for years (Jim's and Brian's dads were lifelong best friends) and we look forward to living next door permanently.
I'll leave you for now with this short video Brian took one afternoon at First Encounter Beach. It was a tad windy, and you can see I could barely stand up....ahhhh, spring on Cape Cod!
