Spring has sprung right past us here in Fort Worth, and it feels like summer once again. But this summer should be a little different, since it will probably be my last summer in Texas. As we speak, the renovation of our Cape Cod house is underway. What has been a dream is fast becoming reality.
It colors your view of things. Summers here are muggy and hot. Neither Brian nor I enjoy them, which is why we are retiring on the Cape. But we do love our garden, which peaks in early summer, and we do enjoy spending time with our friends. So we are determined to have a great Last Summer in Texas (LSIT).
So, first, flowers. We love lilies, both day lilies and species lilies, and we have a lot of them in our garden. In late May/early June, the lilies are at their peak.
The other perennials are starting to bloom as well. The coneflowers (echinacea) are lovely this year!
I taught a color class for the Fort Worth Modern Quilt Guild in May. They are very talented, and made some brilliant improv quilts using different color recipes for each block.
I was so impressed with this bunch!
Brian and I went to the Fort Worth Gem and Mineral show. I bought a new fossil trilobite, an isotelus. So cool!
My fossil collection is growing!
I attended the virtual SAQA conference. And, as my swag from the conference, I received this stuffed blue tang fish by Melanie Dossey. He posed outside my back door before moving into my newly cleaned out studio. And, finally, a picture of Kippers. Looking a bit grumpy perhaps. How dare I wake her up just to stick a camera in her face?
So, happy LSIT to me! I hope you enjoy your summer wherever you live!
